How Often Should You Really Wash Your Jeans?

Now, this might seem like a personal question, but how often do you wash your jeans? Go on, be honest. Do you sling them in the washer after every single wear or can you go days or even weeks in them?

Jeans on washing line

Expert advice recently reported claims that if you're washing your jeans after every wear, it's too much. Now there is a major caveat here. If you prefer to 'go commando' and aren't one for underwear, then it stands to reason that your jeans will need washing far more frequently to remain hygienic, but for the rest of us underwear-preferring types, then washing them after every wear really isn't necessary.

Great reasons not to wash your jeans too frequently include;

  • You'll cut down on the amount of laundry you need to do
  • Your jeans will stay looking better for longer
  • Your jeans will take far longer to fade

A report back in 2015 from Levis stated that washing your jeans every tenth wear instead of every second wear has lots of benefits for the environment too - so If you needed to feel better about not washing your jeans as frequently as you felt you perhaps should, there it is!

Wash you jeans as infrequently as possible say the experts

Experts actually advise to wash jeans as infrequently as possible. Of course if they look grubby or smell, then it's time to sling them in the washer, but other than that, you're good to wear them multiple times and get this, Canadian denim brand Naked & Famous Denim, claim you can happily and safely go months between washes!

So there you have it, as long as they don't whiff or look minging and you aren't too grossed out by the idea, you can go weeks or even months between washes!
