Bring Back the Joy - Why We’re Bored of Beige

Beige. Taupe. Charcoal. The colours of a world desperately trying not to make a fuss. But when did getting dressed become so... dull? In this blog we explore the rise in popularity of neutrals and why it could be time to step away from the aesthetic.

Beige. Taupe. Charcoal. The entire Dulux catalogue of “safe neutrals” is everywhere right now, from TikTok hauls to high-end fashion runways. Apparently, we’re living through a golden age of “quiet luxury” and “capsule wardrobes.” Everything must be minimal, muted, and preferably match your oat milk flat white.

But here’s the thing, when did getting dressed become so dull?

Once upon a time, we used to dress for fun. Fashion was loud, proud, and full of self-expression, not a relentless parade of greige knits and brown leggings and crop top combos. It almost feels like we’ve all agreed to try our very best not to stand out.

Neutrals Continue To Have Their Moment

Don’t get us wrong. We get the appeal of neutrals, they’re chic, versatile, and less risky, making it easy to pair with and accessorise.  Some love the idea of a minimalist wardrobe that removes the need to think too hard about what to wear every morning and that's absolutely fair enough.

But here’s the thing, safe doesn’t always mean satisfying. And lately, it seems like the fear of getting it wrong has outshouted the joy of getting it right in your own weird, colourful way.

What happened to dopamine dressing? What happened to a cheeky pop of colour? What happened to showing your personality and being completely unbothered by wearing whatever the heck brings you joy?

Dressing to Blend In Is Boring

We think it’s time to stop trying so hard to disappear into the background. Fashion should make you feel something, bold, confident, playful, maybe even a little rebellious! It shouldn’t feel like you’re dressing to fade into a Scandinavian hotel wall.

Neutral wardrobes might be in right now, but that doesn’t mean you have to mute your style to join the party. You don’t have to dress like a fashion robot to be relevant.

Honestly? We miss colour. We miss personality. We miss outfits that turn heads and start conversations.

The Power of Small But Mighty Style Moves

At Holé, we’re all about tiny details that make a big statement. You might not be ready to wear neon trousers (yet), but one flash of colour in the right place can completely change your look, and your mood!

Who wants to be a background character anyway? So heres to wearing clothes that make you feel something, because life’s too short to blend in.

Whatever your personal aesthetic, pair your look with Holé Button Covers.
